Regenerative Technology: Amazing!

I have seen the future (today, on YouTube) and the future is now! Go and watch the CBS news segment on the medical clinical trials for regenerating human tissue, organs and even limbs! (Update 4/2011 – this video is no longer available.)

It’s really cool, but rather scary. If we can do this, then how long before we reduce/eliminate mortality? Speaking as a middle aged person (Gosh, that’s hard to say!), who is in no hurry to grow old and die, I’m not sure that eliminating mortality and morbidity is a good thing. I believe that mortality and the knowledge that life is short is what makes us human — what makes us either noble or despicable as individuals.

Removing that may well remove other aspects of our being that we don’t even know are in peril. I don’t know where I fall on this issue (not that my opinion could possibly alter the direction this technology is taking), but I do know it will give me something to contemplate for quite some time.

Tiny House: Kick-butt all-terrain alternative fuel RV

BioDiesel RV Jeep Custom and Cool

Ok, today I made the decision that I was going to sell Serenity, my Airstream trailer. My dream was always to have an Airstream Bambi, and pull it with a 4-WD small to medium sized vehicle. I purchased a larger RV because my former spouse refused to consider a Bambi as a real travel option. Now, I’m going to look for a smaller option to avoid buying one of those uber-large trucks to pull the RV. I’d rather not. I have a little Honda scooter, and I’d like to have a bambi with a bike rack to hold it and pull it with a Jeep or an old Land Rover. But I digress…

Tonight, I was over on eBay preparing to list my Airstream when I started looking around (I have a bad case of the can’t-help-its when it comes to such things) and I found the following listing: Continue reading

Fantastic Friday Finds: Amusements

WickedBlog’s Fantastic Friday Finds LogoIt’s been many weeks since I’ve shared any Friday finds. I’d like to remedy that now. I’ve taken some of the “down” time this week to catch up on what’s going on around the web. Granted, I’ve allowed myself to lag behind a bit in recent months, but I’m back!

Today, I’m sharing a few entertainment finds across the web. Continue reading

Fantastic Friday Finds: Tiny Houses

I’ve become somewhat of a connoisseur of small spaces, not merely because I’m building one, but more because I thoroughly appreciate them. I love tiny spaces that are huge on benefit, utility and beauty. Design matters when you build small. Materials matter. Finishes matters. All the details matter.

With that in mind, I’d like to share a few tiny space concepts that I’ve recently discovered that have not yet reached WickedBlog’s pages:

Saw Beowulf tonight — in 3D!

Ok, the poem that launched my major in English (alongside Chaucer, Milton, and of course Shakespeare) made it to the big screen in a release tonight that I found quite amazing. The digital animation was simply wonderful and to have it “jumping out” at me in full-color, big screen 3D was quite an experience.

A bit on the gory side and a little less than a completely accurate rendition of the original epic hero poem, it was still a good way to spend a Friday evening. An excellent way, in fact.

I’m sure the standard version was good too, but I don’t think anything can quite beat the 3D effects on this one. Kids loved it, I loved it, and it was nearly sold out — so others were anticipating a good time too.

If you get a chance to check it out… you should!
