Can’t Blog on WordPress with iPhone

07/2/2007 4:12:00 PM

510837_yellow_flower_face.jpg*sniff* iPhone doesn’t play nicely with WordPress!

So much for my moblog aspirations… I can type in some text, but I can’t edit (the box doesn’t scroll down. Only the code version shows up — the what you see is what you get version called “visual” doesn’t toggle on the iPhone.)

I can’t edit much (since I can’t scroll down to get to the bottom — or even the middle — of my posts). How disappointing! I hope someone comes up with a work-around soon.

I notice this problem with all the online form-style entry pages I’ve tried so far.

First Weekend with the iPhone

07/2/2007 6:25:00 AM

img_5013.JPGOk, the new hasn’t worn off. In fact, the more I work with it, the more I love it. I’m working to find the online, web-based apps that will make it my tiny palm-sized dream machine. I’ve always hesitated to rely on web-based versions of my core work programs, but I’m now seeing how nicely these web-based programs mesh with use of the iPhone.

I’m sure I’ll be mentioning what I find and offering reviews on what works well over the next days, weeks, and possibly even months. But, for now, here are a few impressions and some finds from my play-time this weekend with my new iPhone:

Applications for the iPhone

06/30/2007 1:42:00 PM

I found a couple pretty sweet little applications for the iPhone this morning.

One was a shopping list for the iPhone - this list utilizes the Safari browser and was developed by Neven Mrgan (he also has a quote fetching service, Quip, which is pretty cool). How does it work? You bookmark the URL of the app: (more…)

iPhone Sells Out in Less Than One Hour in Lexington, Kentucky

06/29/2007 11:26:00 PM

waiting for iPhoneToday, people stood in line in the rain and the muck, awaiting the 6 p.m. opening of local AT&T “corporate” stores to buy the elusive iPhone. In under 50 minutes all the phones in the three Lexington stores were gone.

As of this evening at closing time, there were only two places in Kentucky you could still get the phone — Maysville and Corbin. (Maysville had over 20 units — both 4 and 8 gig models).

The Maysville store number is 606-759-5098 and the Corbin store is: 859-523-1888.

The photo was taken at 3:00 this afternoon at the West Reynolds Road location. I guess those wanting the new toys won’t be slowed by rain, or sleet or snow or dead of night, eh?

Changes in iPhone Featured as Release Date Nears

06/24/2007 1:21:00 AM

I read a recent breakdown of changes in the iPhone done by TheSimpleWebSolution.com by comparing the keynote speech images with the most recent Apple television ads.

Two completely unrelated thoughts cropped up as I read this…

Want to know the top browser, top online game, top web-based communication option — selected by Webware readers and web based application fans from all over? Check out the WebWare 100 Winners for 2007.
Many of these I use, or have used, but a few… under the topics of “entertainment” and “community” are begging for some of my “free time” — whatever THAT is!

It’s good to know that WordPress beat out Drupal, Blogger and TypePad in publishing/blogging and web content tools. *grin*

Dell Features Linux 101 Video on Corp Site

06/18/2007 5:57:00 AM

Surf on over to Dell’s open source page if you would like to view a video introduction to Linux in general and Ubuntu in particular in under five minutes.
Ubuntu is the Linux version both my children are using on their machines (my 17-year-old installed and maintains those systems) and is the OS of choice for Dell in the open source arena.

Dell is also offering a DOS OS on some of their machines for those “old hands” out there that are still running (or who miss running) the old DOS programs.

Thanks to Richard Huston’s Blog for the heads up on the new video!

Considering a Satellite ISP? Consider this!

06/13/2007 7:55:00 PM

I tripped across a great little explanatory blog about the wavelengths used by satellite ISP services (WildBlue in particular) and I thought I’d share that resource with any rural readers considering this option.

Personally, I had DirecWay as a satellite ISP when I was on the farm. When it worked, it was great, when it didn’t — it sucked. And the longer I had it, the slower it got — as more users came on and they throttled it more and more each day to pull in more people without increasing bandwidth and we all had to share.

It got pretty bad toward the end.

Having seriously considered getting WildBlue Internet recently, I found this information to be timely and welcome. Thanks, Tom!

Microsoft Surface: This Just May Be What SAVES Microsoft!

05/31/2007 3:20:00 PM

Interactive Multi-Touch technologyI’ve been thinking that grandpa Microsoft was on the way to the old-folks home for technology. I’ve been making raspberries in his general direction. I’ve been finding alternatives.

And then I see Microsoft Surface — and it actually takes my breath away! It’s AWESOME!!

This is the type of computer integration with my life and my way of doing business and being entertained and staying organized that I’ve always known could be possible — but now I have the details, the funky, cool, OMG details.

This is like the interactive display hardware/software I reported on last year, but it’s so much more — it’s the next generation… and it’ NOW.

I can’t believe I’m recommending my readers go to a Microsoft site… but here I am doing just that.. Visit Microsoft’s Surface site — and watch all three videos. You will be glad you did.

Wow!

iPhone Delayed Due to Demand?

05/26/2007 4:26:00 AM

I called Cingular this week to get a cell phone for my son. Yeah, I know, it would normally run against my grain to deliver a cell phone to a teenager — but we are in the city now and he’s a responsible young man. Besides, he’s going to have freedoms here (and places to be) that weren’t possible in a rural setting. He’s also looking for a job.

So, while ordering the phone, I asked about the ETA for the iPhone. The representative said that it was supposed to be June — but that it had been delayed due to demand. (more…)

A Geek’s Hacks for Firefox

05/15/2007 6:13:00 AM

While doing my usual thing today, I found a great resource for tricking out Firefox. Now this list isn’t for the faint of heart, but for those geeks among us, it’s a cool list to take Firefox to the next level of customization and performance!

Jott: A Cool, Free Productivity Tool for Real Estate Agents (and Everyone Else!)

05/4/2007 6:14:00 AM

Kimberly Thomas-Catanzaro (a peer professional who specializes in bookkeeping) recently sent me a note on a new productivity product (currently in public beta) that I think would be quite a boon for most real estate folks.

I’m going to be testing it over the next few days myself as a way to keep up with expenses. (I’m always out — and usually driving — when I think “oh, I should record this before I forget it.”) I always have my cell phone and can’t drive and use my tablet at the same time — at least not very well or very safely. Tiny Houses: Taking Tiny to a Whole New Micro-Scale

04/29/2007 7:25:00 AM

The latest issue of Wired Magazine (my favorite subscription) featured a new take on small spaces with high-tech features and micro-design. It was too cool not to share with those of you who love a good tiny house as much as I do.

The online version offers a slide show (not offered in my printed version) that brings the tiny space to life. My son is salivating for this little boxy creation to put on the farm, overlooking the “big creek” as his own little bachelor pad. (more…)

This Cool New Toy Puts iPod Content on my TV

04/27/2007 6:31:00 AM

I recently purchased a cool new addition to the iPod accessory collection for our household. I had a slew of Best Buy reward points that were about to expire, so I went shopping. For the first time in ages, there was nothing on my “wish list” for Best Buy.

Can you believe it? I couldn’t.

I actually had to poke around to find something that looked good. Just not much in the shopping mood lately, I guess. Not even for gadgets. *Feeling own forehead for fever*

But I thought I might find a cool new case for my 5G iPod, so I cruised over to the iPod mecca and browsed. That’s when I saw it… (more…)

A Fix-It-Yourself Resource for Technology, Tools and Gadgets

04/25/2007 11:21:00 AM

If you have a problem with a particular product or gadget and you can’t find the information you need on the manufacturer’s site, you now have a resource to help you troubleshoot.

www.FixYa.com is an Israeli website and how-to community with the desire to be the world’s largest support community and online knowledgebase. FixYa hopes to bridge the gap between an increasing lack in manufacturer support and customer demand for technical assistance.

Personally, I’ve already bookmarked this resource and may even hop over there later and write a few “how-to” articles to help support the community myself! In the meantime, check it out for your own techie/geek quandaries.

Way Cool Search for Open Source Images and Fonts

04/11/2007 8:14:00 AM

Ok, as if it’s not cool enough to have found the Open Clip Art Library, I’ve found a search tool for it that’s not only useful, it’s actually FUN!

Check out this “sketch it and we will match it” search tool for the open source image library. Just pick the color you are seeking and draw a really quick sketch on the black box (this is easier if you have a Tablet PC) and watch it do an auto-magic search. Even if you are a lousy artist like me, you get cool results.

Take it for a spin, and then tip-toe over to the open source font library — if you have enough space left on your hard drive to become a collector. I’m feeling a new external hard drive purchase coming on!

My Son Has Gone To Linux and He Loves It

04/10/2007 12:01:00 PM

Linux Users All in a RowRecently, I announced that I’m going to Linux. And I bellyache about Vista to my family. What happens? My father goes to Linux on one of his machines… then converts three more. (He likes his computers.) Now, my 17-year old has taken an old box I pulled from the discard pile at a client site and has reworked it with a Linux operating system.

They are telling me that Linux has gotten alot easier. They tell me there is very little required to get the OS working other than “dropping in” Ubuntu.

Now, suddenly, my son and father have both joined forces and started giving me crap (in stereo) for not having switched over already.

I’m running a business. I can’t just up and switch without a bit of research, some product testing and getting all my systems and software in place and under my belt…FIRST. I can’t just “go Linux” tomorrow and decide not to worry about all the functionality I need that won’t immediately work.

Why? I’m glad you asked… (more…)
