Thanks, Gary! And Katherine, I believe that “shouldn’t be punished with debt” is exactly his point. You and I share similar concerns. I worry these days (even more than usual).

We shall see over the next few weeks and months whether or not the majority of Americans support this “no responsibility” era in our history. I do hope that there are enough of us left who believe in personal responsibility, that this idea doesn’t become and ideal.

I heard Obama’s speech at a Planned Parenthood rally where he said that if his daughters made a mistake, he wouldn’t want them to be “punished with a baby”. My husband and I were aghast at his language. Mu husband said, “that’s like saying that if you run up your credit card, you shouldn’t be punished with debt… it’s not punishment it’s just an effect!”
I wasn’t thinking at the time about the fact that our new president probably does see debt as unfair punishment…

We’re a bit scared and politically lonely, too. For sure.
