GRR! My iPhone is JUST a phone! Avoid iTunes 7.7.1

Well, after buying a bunch of cool apps night before last, I’ve essentially decommissioned my iPhone. Not only does this “upgrade” make all my applications crash seconds after they attempt to launch…

I no longer have music, videos or audiobooks on my iphone! Yesterday and today (despite an all-night synch attempt) I have been stuck with an iPhone that is JUST a phone. I’m hating this, and according to reports online, it will be sometime in September before this is fixed.

If anyone knows of a place to download iTunes 7.7 for Mac OSX (or if anyone has their old copy of 7.7 still hanging around), please let me know. I’m desperate!

  1. I fixed the iPhone by removing all programs (apps) and all music and videos and returning it to the “as delivered” state. Then I checked for updates, installed the new iPhone software (which would not install when it was crashing apps), and added back on the apps that I knew were good.

I think this was caused by a couple of buggy apps that made it to the app store because some of the error messages included references to a couple of my app programs.

Those apps won’t be back on my iPhone again.

  2. I imagine the problem was related to your apps and not iTunes itself. I upgraded to 7.7.1 when it came out and have had no problems. Of course, I only have a select few (free) apps running on my iPhone right now. Glad that you got it worked out.

  3. And today, after a sync, I have some apps that work, and some that don’t. I’ll be glad when this thing is fixed. I thought it was a buggy app that caused my issues. Apparently it’s not.

I’m not willing to remove all the apps again, since I’ve been storing information that matters to me in a couple. I don’t want to lose the data. Maybe I’ll figure out how to save the info elsewhere. *sigh*
