Homeschooling: Chicken hearts and hell frogs

I located instructions on how to dissect a chicken heart online (because we are studying the circulatory system in Alex’s homeschool lessons). This was the result of innocently preaparing to cook a whole chicken for dinner the other day and thinking “here’s an opportunity” as I dug the innards out of the chicken before washing and baking it.

The homeschooling spiderweb strikes again!

Everything we start to study leads to a dozen more possible topics that are both interesting and relevant. We also found out about a prehistoric, carnivorous “hell frog” from a National Science Foundation Press Release. That was an unexpectedly “juicy” find. :O)

  1. Interesting! Alex has already torn apart and identified bones in an owl pellet (one of the strangest/grossest gifts ever from my sister to one of my kids) and she LOVED it. She spent weeks on it doing it ever so carefully to be able to recover every tiny bone.

I must admit it was pretty amazing, albeit disgusting.
