I’m not-so-proud to say that my own elementary school… Edna L. Toliver School in Danville, Kentucky was displaying THIS earlier today:

It’s stuff like this… and I don’t just mean the spelling of “Scool” — but also the spelling of “Libary” that just makes me beam with pride. And yes, I’m sure that throwing more money at this “Reading First” school will help improve the spelling issues. I’m sure it will… aren’t you?
*Rolls eyes*

Omg im 10 and Toliver rocks so shutup people they can spell they just let the kindergardeners do that omg so Shutup
Hmmm. Judging from your email address, I’d guess you are a little older than 10 — unless you simply chose a random date 16 years ago to create your yahoo address along with your initials. Second, if the kindergarden class is out doing this unchaperoned, we have an even bigger problem than the spelling issue and if they are led there by teachers, then someone is still falling down on the job of educating and correcting. And finally, being rude is something that a proper education should help tame. As such, I’m assuming you are/were a Toliver Student… am I right?
I am a proud alumni of Edna Toliver and that should have been changed. By somebody. or at least update the picture.
James –
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I agree that there should be some changes, but I think it’s a bigger issue — one with our public “education” system as a whole — rather than merely an isolated issue related only to Toliver.
I, too, wish someone had changed the sign — preferably before they closed the glass on the front of the display and locked it. (I also attended Toliver.)
However, photos capture a moment in time and at that moment, this was what it looked like. That’s why I took the photo. At the very least, I hope that this type of thing won’t happen again. Maybe the administration will be a little more observant and the teachers will encourage students to work on spelling issues a little more.
One can hope.
I know it is bad spelling, but guess what, the 3rd graders did that not the kindergarteners, and they were well chaperoned and mature, unlike whoever commented up there. That is my former school as well, but why make a big deal about it?
